When the spring of 1917 was over, the German air service was starting to once more lose control of the air.  The Albatros D.III had demonstrated superior qualities to older Allied machines, but the latest D.V version was not a sufficient improvement to fend off the likes of the Sopwith Triplane.  By summer, Allied planes had driven the Germans from the air.
