* It has been pointed out that the Roland CII was not a bomber.... we are aware of this.  But for play purposes, the Roland serves in this capacity, since we are still looking for early German 2-seaters!  The second Roland serves as the 2-seat fighter and has the rear gun firing forward at a lower hit factor to simulate the gunner's ability to fire forward over most of the frontal arc.  For now, we offer the BE2c repainted and with new damage profile as an AEG recon plane.
For the Germans, 1916 was a difficult year, while for Antony Fokker, it was a disaster.  His Fokker E.III "Eindecker" was now outclassed,  and gradually newer Allied scouts took control of the air over the trenches.  The Halberstadt D.II and III machines, of which only about 100 were built, helped stem the tide, but it wasn't until the Albatros D.II was introduced that the German pilots had a machine capable of  beating the DH-2s and Gunbuses.  In the spring of 1917, the Albatros D.IIs  and IIIs slaughtered the RFC's recon force during "Bloody April."
